Key Elemental Fact

Named after Neils Bohr, Bohrium is one of the highly radioactive rare-earth elements that does not naturally exist having only been created artificially in a laboratory environment. It was initially called unnilseptium when discovered. This was to appease scientists from the West and the USSR (as was). Russia claimed its discovery in 1976 and German scientists confirmed their work in 1981. Bohrium has never been isolated as more than a few atoms and consequently never been visually observed. It decays incredibly quickly, having a half life of only 102 milliseconds (102 thousands of a second).
